For those wondering why, we're Ryland & JP, the founders of Scout's Doughnuts & Coffee, and we're pumped to share the short(ish) story of how we got here.
We launched straight into corporate careers after college and quickly learned two things:
We wanted our vocations and personal lives integrated: each one contributing to and compounding the other.
We wanted to do as much life together as possible, with each other and our kids.
Fast forward eight years, and we were still figuring out what that meant.
We'd known for a while that we wanted to start our own small business in Greenville. One that could lead the integration of our vocations and personal lives. When the opportunity came, we knew it had to meet a few criteria:
Be something our whole family could participate in.
Cultivate growth; in our lives, our team, our community, and our city.
Foster relationships. Because we're not meant to grow alone.
Life truly is sweeter together.
"Ok, ok, ok... But how did you land on doughnuts?"
Great question. Ryland's been running with the same group of guys for years, and a couple of them routinely complained there weren't any good local doughnuts in Greenville, SC. Around the 10th time it came up, Ryland shared it with JP, and they just couldn't shake the idea.
After a year of market research, recipe testing, and technique-building, they brought their first-ever box of handcrafted doughnuts to Bridge City Coffee in February 2022.
